Wildlife and animals Tsavo East
Tsavo East National Park is home to some of Africa’s most iconic animals. The herds of elephants you’ll encounter here are known for their red colour, which is due to the dust from the local red soil that the elephants like to dust on their skin. These fascinating animals have become the symbol of Tsavo East and there are more than enough of them here. You can also spot four of the Big Five in the park – lions, leopards, elephants and buffalo (there are no rhinos here, but that doesn’t mean Tsavo isn’t home to other amazing species).
In addition to the elephants, Tsavo East also boasts a diverse fauna, including giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, hyenas, gazelles, dik-dik and the rare oryx. If you’re into birdwatching, the park is sure to delight – it’s home to over 500 species of birds, including the golden starling, golden pipit and Somali ostrich. The area is also an important wintering ground for migratory birds from Europe.

Charming landscape
When visiting Tsavo East National Park, your safari will not only focus on the fascinating wildlife, but also on the beautiful natural landscape that makes this park truly special. Tsavo East is known for its diversity of landscape types that blend together to create a unique wilderness atmosphere. Vast savannahs, covered with wide plains, stretch to the horizon, where they merge with the blue sky. This almost endless landscape offers a perfect view of vast grasslands, interspersed with bushes and rare trees that provide shade and shelter for many animals.
If you are a nature lover looking for an authentic experience, Tsavo East is the right place for you. This park will not only offer you the opportunity to observe wildlife in its natural habitat, but also to explore a landscape that is fascinating in itself. The natural beauty here will remain in your memory long after your visit.

One of the dominant natural features of Tsavo East is the Galana River, which flows through the park and creates an oasis of life. Along the river are riverine forests, which are home to many species of birds and other animals.

Rock formations
Another unforgettable feature of the park are the rock formations, such as Mudanda Rock, which towers over the surrounding landscape. This imposing rock massif not only adds to the dramatic appearance of the landscape, but also offers unique views of the surrounding savannah and river. Mudanda Rock is known for providing a great spot for animal watching, as from its height it is easy to spot herds of elephants, zebras or gazelles moving across the vast plains.
Scenery
Tsavo East offers a diverse natural landscape that changes depending on the season. During the rainy season, the landscape turns green and the entire park is covered in lush vegetation, attracting even more animals. During the dry season, when the vegetation recedes, animals gather near water bodies, creating great conditions for observation and photography. Whether the park is green and vibrant after the rains, or dry and calm during the dry season, every visitor will find something to enchant them.
